그리움은 때로는 오래된 기억의 빛처럼 희미하게 번지고, 때로는 마음 깊은 곳에서 조용히 피어나는 꽃처럼 다가온다. 이 작품은 그렇게 설명하기 어려운 감정의 흐름을 담아낸 작업이다. 화면 위의 작은 창은 마음속 어딘가에 남아 있는 기억의 공간이자, 지나간 시간과 현재를 이어주는 통로로 창가에 앉아 말없이 자신의 내면과 마주하고 있다.

꽃은 가장 아름다운 순간에 피어나지만 동시에 언젠가는 스러질 것을 품고 있다. 그래서 그리움 또한 아름다움과 슬픔을 함께 지닌 감정이라고 생각했다.

Longing sometimes spreads faintly like the light of an old memory, and at other times approaches quietly like a flower blooming deep within the heart. This work captures the flow of such emotions that are difficult to explain in words. The small window within the painting represents a space of memory that remains somewhere in the mind, as well as a passage connecting the past and the present. Sitting silently by the window, the figure confronts their own inner self in stillness.

Flowers bloom at their most beautiful moment while also carrying the inevitability of fading away. In that sense, I believe longing is an emotion that holds both beauty and sadness at once.

The bright yellow light in the work contains the warmth of memory and the temperature of hope, while the vast blue sea symbolizes the depth of emotions endlessly sinking below. Just as a quiet ocean hides an unreachable abyss beneath its surface, longing within the heart may appear calm outwardly, yet continues to linger and tremble deep inside.

We all live carrying a small window within our hearts, looking through it toward past moments and emotions. I hope this work becomes a quiet space where viewers can gently reflect on the longing and warmth that remain within their own hearts.

This piece was inspired by Almond Blossom by Vincent van Gogh. Just as Van Gogh painted almond blossoms to express hope for life and new beginnings, I too wished to let my own stories bloom upon the branches of this tree.

The tiny houses, people, and animals nestled between the petals are scenes from my memories and imagination. On these branches—where reality and dreams, time and space intertwine—each element quietly gazes at the others, continuing a gentle narrative. Sometimes they reflect my childhood, other times they are images encountered in dreams. Though they may not exist in the real world, they live vividly within my heart.

The small worlds drifting between the blue sky and the blooming flowers are landscapes of my soul—reminders of the small joys and precious presences we often overlook in daily life, and a personal sanctuary to which I long to return.

Through this painting, I hope viewers will also be inspired to recall and reflect on the stories blooming on the branches of their own lives.

지중해의 따뜻한 정취와 낭만적인 풍경을 담아내는 토마스 맥나이트의 작품 세계에 깊은 감명을 받아, 그의 작품을 직접 따라 그려본 작업이다.

하얀 건물 사이로 펼쳐지는 푸른 바다와 달빛이 비추는 고요한 풍경, 그리고 아늑한 테이블과 의자들은 맥나이트 특유의 평화롭고 서정적인 분위기를 잘 보여준다. 원작의 색감과 구도, 그리고 지중해 특유의 밝고 따뜻한 공기를 최대한 충실히 표현하고자 노력했다.

Deeply inspired by the warm Mediterranean atmosphere and romantic imagery found in the works of Thomas McKnight, I recreated this painting as a study of his artistic world.

The blue sea framed by whitewashed buildings, the quiet moonlit scenery, and the cozy tables and chairs beautifully reflect McKnight’s signature sense of peace and lyricism. In this work, I focused on faithfully capturing the original composition, color harmony, and the bright, warm air unique to the Mediterranean setting.

This process was more than simple imitation; it became an opportunity to carefully observe and better understand the balance of color, space, and emotion within the original work. While painting, I felt as though I were quietly resting in a small Mediterranean alley overlooking the sea.

I hope viewers, too, can momentarily step away from everyday life and experience the calmness of gazing at a tranquil moonlit ocean.
